Big word alert!! DermoNeuroModulation (DNM), Positional Release Therapy (PRT), Total Body Balancing (TBB), Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) and Lymphatic Balancing for lower and upper quadrants are techniques we use for therapy.
All techniques use some of the cutting edge research in pain and neuroscience. ALL treatments address tightness within the body no matter how long the pain has been present. Again, they are all designed to interact with the nervous system to promote change throughout the body to provide pain relief for healing.
DNM is a hands-on technique used for clients experiencing extreme pain. Again, it is manual contact on skin that targets the central nervous system, peripheral nerves and the skin, our largest organ of the body.
The physical action of hands on skin interacts with peripheral and cutaneous nerves. This engages the nervous system and promotes response and change to the tissues.
Total Body Balancing (TBB)
Total Body Balancing is a full body assessment with a 5-phase treatment approach which uses long levers (arms, legs, head/neck or torso) and rhythmic mobilization to release tension in muscles, fascia, joints and ligaments to improve circulation, nerve and energy flow.
TBB is based on osteopathic principles stating the body is a whole and that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts (from Dr. A. T. Still, founding father of classical osteopathy). It expands on the work and teachings of John Wernham, DO (Body Adjustment). In other words, it is important to take a closer look at the whole body as a total vital mechanism which implies that every part of the body is not only interconnected, but interrelated! TBB helps to normalize sympathetic and parasympathetic neurological activity. The long lever approach of rhythmic mobilization influences all systems of the body including the lymphatic, visceral, craniosacral, myofascial and musculoskeletal systems and serves as an overall support and integration for specific treatment.
Positional Release Therapy (PRT)
PRT treats muscle hypertonicity (tightness) or protective muscle spasms, restores proper joint bio-mechanics and improves functional range of motion and local physiology (nerve, artery, vein and lymphatic circulation).
Myofascial Release (MFR)
MFR is a mild, effective technique used to treat injuries, discomfort and dysfunction. MFR reduces pain and increases range of motion as it addresses tightness in the body using the nervous system to effect skin, nerves, muscles, organs and vascular structures as well. The purpose is to find lines of tension and/or dysfunction that may have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. MFR is performed with no lotions or oils on DRY skin and without any skin moisturizer.
Below is a video from Walt Fritz, PT, that discusses MFR and a sample session.
